When to use RFP and RFI?

What is a request for proposals and how does it differ from a request for information?

In large part, it is semantics. Request for proposals means one is providing detailed project requirements that vendors respond to with actual proposals. Request for information is more focused on providing basic information in the beginning of the research process leading up to a proposal.
