Third party vendors and StorageTek
We have a StorageTek Iceberg disk array and StorageTek will not support it unless the product is upgraded at a cost of 150K. Since the product is gong to be phased out we do not want to spend money on it. At the same time, we still need the support.

Are there any third party vendors that can provide a similar kind of support in the NY area?

I am not aware of Storagetek having an OEM relationship to any third party regarding the Iceberg line.

Another question is what kind of support do you want? When it comes down to configuration, etc. an independent solution provider might be able to deliver such services. However, things like replacement of parts will be difficult because StorageTek might not support it.

To evaluate your options, you need to evaluate the risk:

How probable is a serious unsupported malfunction of the system?
What would that malfunction mean from a cost perspective?
How many users will be cut off from their data?
What is the impact on your business.

As a last step, you need to balance it against the cost you will have to pay for the support.

Hope this helps a bit.
