The importance of medium access control

Can you please describe the importance of medium access control (MAC) for network transmission? Also, can you state two examples of MAC techniques?

MAC (media access control) is an essential part of any communications. Without it there is no process for establishing communications.

Ethernet CSMA-CD is one type and SCSI arbitration is another.
