The best method for migrating from Symmetrix to DMX
What is the best method for migrating data from EMC Symmetirx in one building to EMC DMX located in another building a few kilometers away? The attached hosts are running W2K and Solaris. I believe SRDF is the only way but there seems to be different modes of SRDF available.
For the hosts that have data volumes created by Veritas Volume Manager (in MS W2K cluster as well as VCS), which is the best way to move the data?

Use SRDF in
asynchronous mode to make the original copy. There is no need to worry about losing data during the initial copy because it's not realistic to use it for
DR purposes anyway. (The data cannot be in sync until it is all copied over).
After the DMX is fully populated with
Symm data, then you will want to decide between synchronous mode or semi-synchronous mode. I would go conservative first and use synchronous and see if you notice performance degradation in your Windows
cluster. If so, switch to async mode. If not, keep it in
synchronous mode.
