Q

Storing a DEC on a Shark

I am researching the possibility of storing our DEC (COMPAQ) alpha server 1000a data on our Shark. I would like...

to know if this has been done successfully and if there are any tricks to it. Thank you.

I don't know of any reasons why this would not work. At a communications and functional level, everything is standard. Compatibility should not be a concern. The only hiccup that could occur is if the alpha system uses a proprietary storage protocol for any special functions such as clustered storage.

There was a question some time ago about cross vendor compatibility regarding an alpha system. My answer was pretty much the same then and I never heard back that my answer was wrong.

Regards,
Marc Farley
