Q

NAS devices being used for Oracle datafiles

Randy,

Have you seen other NAS devices, other than NetApp, for storing Oracle datafiles being accessed by hosts running Oracle server? What is the performance of such a solution?

Yes I have seen other NAS devices being used for Oracle. I don't have a performance number for that, but remember that with NAS, the network (its load factor and the number of connections) and the server power and load are very big in determining elements of performance. So, only a standardized benchmark would have any meaning.

The Storage Performance Council is looking into performance benchmarks in this area.
