My client has ordered the EMC CX500 and Veritas Volume Manager to provide the storage tier behind Sun Solaris hosts serving Oracle DB and WebLogic application servers. Since EMC owns Legato, would Legato offer a better/more compatible software solution for managing volume backup and data replication?

Veritas has good replication and mirroring solutions that work well with Oracle and Sun Solaris as well as VxVM. Due diligence requires that you look at both Legato and Veritas for backup and data replication to see how they meet your specific requirements.
