Q

Is it nearline or extended online storage?

My question concerns the name of the new category of disk storage based on ATA "cheap disk" drives. I have seen references to "nearline" storage and "extended online" storage. What name do you use?
Nearline storage is the most common name I hear. I think the primary way to look at this technology is to examine what role these inexpensive storage arrays serve. In a growing number of cases, it is either consolidated disk-to-disk backup, archiving or off-site disk storage for disaster recovery.
