Question 1. This question is not clear to me. You say "what kind of edge..." If you have IT training and you have "knowledge" as an IT professional, then you are likely to secure employment in IT. With that training, however, you are not likely to obtain a position in some other area, such as software development. That requires much more specialized training, typically a college degree in Computer Science.
Question 2. I am unable to speculate on the number of IT jobs. It depends on economic conditions, growth, and demand for products in the IT industry. There's a lot of uncertainty (and layoffs) in the industry at this time though.
