Q

FCID on two separate fabrics

Storage expert Greg Schulz answers a reader's question, "Is it possible to have the same FCID appear on two separate fabrics?"

Is it possible to have the same FCID appear on two separate fabrics? If so, under what conditions?
Assuming two fabrics are separate, either physically not connected or connected yet logically isolated using a segmentation router or some derivative of a virtual SAN implementation, you should be able to have the same FCID in separate fabrics. Having the same FCID appear multiple times in the same fabric however is not a good thing for the health and well being of your fabric and needs to be avoided.
