
Here are the seven finalists in the backup hardware category in Storage magazine's and SearchStorage.com's 2010 Products of the Year competition. The category covers libraries, tape drives and backup media, disk backup targets, virtual tape libraries (VTLs) and deduplication devices. Finalists are listed alphabetically.
Cirtas Systems Bluejet Cloud Storage Controller
With the Cirtas Systems Bluejet
Cloud Storage Controller, data is seamlessly and transparently stored in the cloud. Bluejet
uses wide-area network (WAN) optimization techniques and virtualization to deliver a viable
enterprise cloud storage solution for tier 2 or tier 3 applications.
EMC Data Domain Global Deduplication Array with EMC Data Domain Boost
The EMC
Data Domain Global Deduplication Array (GDA) with EMC Data Domain Boost boasts a throughput of
12.8 TB/hour and can accommodate more than 14 petabytes of data. The EMC Data Domain Boost option
can distribute parts of the deduplication process to the backup server to accelerate performance by
up to 50%.
Nexsan Corp. DeDupe SG 2.0
Nexsan DeDupe SG 2.0 is a highly available
deduplication system that uses FalconStor Software Inc.'s data deduplication software. Configured
with redundant appliances, DeDupe SG 2.0 can achieve throughput rates of up to 5.4 TB/hour. It also
includes support for Symantec OST.
Overland Storage Inc. NEO 8000e
The NEO
8000e is Overland's most powerful and highest capacity tape library. It has a maximum capacity
of 3 petabytes when fully configured with 24 drives and 1,000 cartridge slots. With LTO-5 drives,
the NEO 8000e can achieve transfer rates approaching 24 TB/hour.
Quantum Corp. DXi6500 Family (DXi6530, DXi6540 and DXi6550)
Quantum has been filling out its DXi line of backup devices for the last year or so. The DXi6500 family of
NAS backup appliances was broadened with the addition of the DXi6530, DXi6540 and DXi6550 models
that scale from 24 TB all the way up to 56 TB with the DXi6540 and DXi6550. Quantum bills the
DXi6500 appliances as turnkey devices and includes all licensed software in the base cost.
Spectra Logic Corp. T-Finity
Spectra Logic calls its T-Finity
tape library the world's largest and highest capacity library available. T-Finity can accommodate
up to 30,000 cartridge slots in a single library, allowing it to scale to 91 petabytes of
compressed data. Spectra Logic's BlueScale software is used to manage all operational aspects of
the T-Finity.
Tandberg Data AccuVault RDX 1TB
Tandberg Data's AccuVault
RDX 1TB is an all-in-one data protection solution that combines fixed and removable disks, and
uses preconfigured source-based deduplication software. The AccuVault RDX 1TB system can support up
to five servers or workstations.
