Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 is the latest version of this popular backup application that supports both Windows and Linux servers. New features include a central management console with added reporting capabilities and a dashboard monitor. Acronis has also added a data deduplication module to its flagship product.
AppAssure Software Inc. Replay 4
AppAssure's economical Replay backup and recovery software is available under a traditional license or by monthly subscription. Version 4 introduces integration with cold backup services, and support for Microsoft Server 2008, Hyper-V and SQL Server.
CA ARCserve Backup r12.5
CA's venerable ARCserve Backup adds a bevy of new features in the 12.5 release, including data deduplication, enhanced virtual machine (VM) support with a one-step file recovery feature, improved storage resource management (SRM) capabilities, as well as Media Assure, which certifies the recoverability of backed up data.
CommVault Systems Inc. Simpana 8
CommVault's jack-of-all-trades Simpana data protection suite has been updated in Version 8 with features like data deduplication that span both backup and archive data, enhanced continuous data protection (CDP) capabilities that make backing up remote offices easier and an industry-first dedupe to tape feature.
Continuity Software RecoverGuard v4.0
One of the first—and still one of the few—disaster recovery testing and monitoring applications, RecoverGuard v4.0 adds gap detection capabilities for high-availability clustered environments, more prescriptive help to remedy detected vulnerabilities and reporting that shows assets that need to be protected but are not.
Double-Take Software Inc. Double-Take Backup Version 5.2
Double-Take Backup Version 5.2 adds new CDP with full protection of applications and their data, as well as operating systems, which can be used to protect remote-office systems. Recovery can be granular or on a large scale, and data can be recovered to or from virtual and physical servers.
FalconStor Software Inc. FalconStor File-interface Deduplication System (FDS)
FalconStor's latest data protection product adds the ability to use standard file storage as a backup target. Backup data can be globally deduplicated either after the backup data hits the disk or concurrently with the backup operation.
IBM Corp. Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) 6
Version 6 of Tivoli Storage Manager brings new capabilities to this 15-year old data backup application. Among the new features are improved scalability and performance, new data deduplication capabilities, expanded backup reporting and monitoring, and use of IBM's DB2 as the underlying database.
Vizioncore Inc. vRanger Pro 4 Data Protection Platform (DPP)
With vRanger Pro, Vizioncore essentially created a new class of data protection products—virtual server backup. In Version 4, Vizioncore added incremental backups, simultaneous ESX host backup, new management functions, and an improved graphical interface and configuration wizards.
VMware Inc. VMware Data Recovery (VDR) 1
VMware VDR integrates with VMware vCenter Server to provide agentless backup of virtual servers that can be managed centrally. Data deduplication and compression are included, as well as snapshotting capability. VDR uses block tracking to back up only blocks of data that have changed since the last backup.
